These standards are aimed at furthering a culture of physical and psychological safety for employees and customers through the prevention of violence, harassment and discrimination. All 39,000 McDonald’s restaurants, both Company-owned and franchisee locations, in more than 100 countries will be required to adhere to these standards. Implementation will be supported by a suite of policies, tools, trainings and reporting mechanisms. “There are no short cuts to ensuring that people feel safe, respected and included at a McDonald’s restaurant. This work starts by taking big, intentional moves,” said McDonald’s President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Kempczinski . “Our new Global Brand Standards reinforce our commitment to living our values such that at every interaction, everyone is welcome, comfortable and safe.” The new Brand Standards prioritize actions in four areas: harassment, discrimination and retaliation prevention; workplace violence prevention; restaurant employee feedback; and health and safety. These standards were informed by a cross-functional global team, reviews of global market practices and perspectives from across the McDonald’s System. “As employers, we have an important role to play in setting the bar high for a values-led, safe and inclusive working environment,” said Mark Salebra, Chairman of the U.S. National Franchisee Leadership Alliance (NFLA) and franchise owner . “Our franchise community is committed to adhering to the standards and model what it means to support our employees in doing what we do best—serving our customers and communities with integrity and respect.” Beginning in January 2022, restaurants will be assessed and held accountable in accordance with the applicable McDonald’s market’s business evaluation processes. This timeline allows each market to implement the Brand Standards in the way that is most effective. The new Global Brand Standards will help identify and scale best practices across the industry by setting a clear path for action and accountability. “McDonald’s has a responsibility and an opportunity to use our tremendous scale to drive change globally,” said Reto Egger, Speaker Group Chair of the European Franchisee Leadership Group (EFLG) and franchise owner . “These refreshed standards and heightened measures of accountability are central to our culture, our business goals and the need in our society to foster more respect, safety and inclusion.” “Every company has a responsibility to create a safe environment for its employees and everyone who walks through its doors,” said Clara Kim, vice president of consulting services, RAINN, the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the United States. “We commend McDonald’s for setting these standards to help ensure that everyone working at a McDonald’s restaurant is provided with a safe and respectful workplace and that all restaurants are held accountable for this important work.” The company will continue to work in partnership with independent and third-party experts in the U.S. and globally to provide expertise, training and tools that support the implementation of the standards for franchisees.     About McDonald's McDonald's is the world's leading global foodservice retailer with over 39,000 locations in over 100 countries. In Spain, weddings were cancelled, family gatherings were postponed, restaurants were closed for in-person dining and vacations were few and far between. For the farmers and producers who supply food for these events, the demand for their products fell greatly. Many wound up with excess supply that few had the money, or reason, to buy. Our team at McDonald’s Spain saw local producers hurting and leapt into action to create a brand-new menu item that would not only be delicious, but also involve and benefit as many Spanish farmers and producers as possible. Typically, McDonald's will create an amazing new recipe, then find producers who can supply all the ingredients. This time around, we identified producers greatly impacted by the pandemic, and created an amazing new recipe around the ingredients they could supply. And we did this quickly – we wanted the final product in our restaurants as soon as possible. In April 2020, McDonald’s Spain team set out to find local providers who were the most affected by the pandemic. Within seven months, they created the recipe for the Big Good Burger – made from seven ingredients supplied by 2,000 producers:   100% Spanish beef from Extremadura A bun made with wheat flours, rye and spelt gathered from Castilla-León, Cataluña, and Madrid Batavia lettuce from Navarra and Murcia Goat, sheep and cow milk cheese from Castilla-La Mancha and Galicia. Mediterranean sauce with olive oil and vegetables from Andalusia and Extremadura Onions from the north of Spain Tomatoes from Andalucia and Murcia The Big Good Burger was a huge hit – more than 2,000 farmers and suppliers benefitted. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, McDonald's Spain had committed to purchasing more than 70% of its restaurant ingredients from Spanish providers. The Big Good Burger truly showcased the quality ingredients produced by Spanish farmers – even during hard times.   Our Latest Stories","imgalt":"Big good burger from Spain ","rnews":"true","pubdate":"04-08-2021","location":["global"],"tstamp":"2021-04-20T15:01:46.38Z","apubdate":"2021-04-08T15:01:00Z","date":"2021-04-08T15:01:00Z","segment":"20210420110118","anchor":["/content/gws-newsroom/corpmcd/en-us/2021/4/burger-spanishfarmer.html"],"digest":"c681539cf5b72f5c53d7a2dc2bdc8a7a","desc":"This McDonald’s Burger Benefitted 2,000 Spanish Farmers and Producers","featured":"true","boost":0.03752933,"ptype":["OurFood,OurStories"],"atitle":"This McDonald’s Burger Benefitted 2,000 Spanish Farmers and Producers","_version_":1697576545872248832},{"stype":["OurPeople,OurStories,Featured,OurStories"],"image":"/content/dam/gwscorp/assets/news-articles/2021/March2021/RusskyIsland_1920x1080.png","path":"russia-serves-meals.html","ptypetitle":"Community","title":"russia-serves-meals","name_autocomplete":"russia-serves-meals","simage":"/content/dam/gwscorp/assets/news-articles/2021/March2021/RusskyIsland_1080x1080.png","id":"https://corporate.mcdonalds.com/gws-newsroom/corpmcd/en-us/2021/4/russia-serves-meals.html","content":"russia-serves-meals April 1, 2021 McDonald’s Russia Serves Far East Region After Ice Storm     Did you know that McDonald’s has had restaurants in Russia for more than 30 years? This past December, we opened the first-ever McDonald’s restaurants in Russia’s Far East Region. The (socially distant) Grand Opening celebrations in Vladivostok and Khabarovsk were a blast – and many locals ate McDonald’s food for the very first time. Some customers had tried McDonald’s food a few weeks earlier, though, under different circumstances. Back in November, an ice storm hit Russia’s Far East Region and impacted local infrastructure, including residents’ electricity and heat. Though our restaurants in Vladivostok and Khabarovsk had not yet opened, McDonald's Russia worked with government officials to determine how they could best support local residents in their time of need. Within two days, McDonald’s Russia had planned, packed and delivered more than 3,000 lunches to the island village of Pospelovo, where many resources had been cut off due to the ice storm (and roads had been closed). For some longtime residents of Russia’s Far East Region, this was the first time they’d ever tasted McDonald’s food. We’re glad to have expanded into a new part of Russia. But more importantly, we’re grateful we could serve our community in their time of need.
