Ronald McDonald House Charities® and Their Commitment to the Environment

April 22, 2019

Did you know that Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC®) sustainability efforts help to ensure that families experience the RMHC mission while allowing donor dollars to go further? RMHC is enhancing their mission while doing their part to care for the Earth by focusing on four key pillars of sustainability.

Water Efficiency - Oak Lawn, IL

Water Efficiency

The RMHC system is well on their way to achieving their goal of improving water efficiency by 20% with the efforts of Chapters like RMHC Southern California. They are reducing water consumption by using low-water native plans in their outdoor spaces.

Energy Efficiency - Montreal, Canada

Energy Efficiency

The RMHC system has set a goal of improving energy efficiency by 20% by 2020 and has already improved energy efficiency by 13% system-wide. The Ronald McDonald House in Valencia, Spain has a solar thermal system which uses the sun’s energy to heat its water supply, thus keeping energy costs low.

Waste Management - Saskatoon, Canada

Waste Management

86% of Ronald McDonald House® programs have waste management programs in place and we are on track to reach our goal of 100% by 2020. The Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan minimizes food waste through careful meal-planning and any left-over ingredients are used in subsequent meals or made available in the community pantry.
