Now more than ever, we're committed to serving our local communities around the world. In Australia, this involves changing up our menu to offer something we’ve never sold before: groceries.

Right now, many core essential items in Australian supermarkets are understandably limited due to recent overbuying.

Recognizing this, some of our franchised and company-owned restaurants have added staple food items, like milk and bread, to their regular menus – enabling customers to shop for basics they’d usually find at supermarkets via McDonald’s contactless takeaway and Drive Thrus.

The recent introduction of McDonald’s Australia’s contactless services has received widespread community support for providing a safe and easy way for people to get McDonald’s food and drinks, as well as essential basics.

“Maccas has always been committed to serving our communities,” said Andrew Gregory, Chief Executive Officer McDonald’s Australia. “During this challenging time, we hope our contactless Drive Thrus and new 'essentials’ options will help provide both convenience and peace of mind for customers across the country.”

The first round of convenience foods available at participating McDonald’s includes full cream and skimmed milk, English Muffins, and gourmet bread rolls. Each of these items are the same products we use in-restaurant, including buns from our burgers and muffins from our breakfast menu, emphasizing the quality of our regular products. McDonald's Australia expects to extend the range of core convenience offerings to include eggs and other products in the coming weeks.

"As the largest employer of youth in Australia, with more than 100,000 employees across the country, we take our responsibility to help make a positive contribution very seriously,” said Andrew.

“I hope Australians know they can always rely on Maccas.”
