We’re testing a Crispy Chicken Sandwich that just might blow your mind.

January 28, 2020

Our customers had a craving.

And McDonald’s Owner Operators flagged it.

They knew that McDonald’s current chicken menu items – from the McChicken ® Sandwich to McNuggets – are fan favorites across the U.S.

But they also knew that their customers were searching for a certain type of chicken sandwich. They wanted to take that intel and turn it into a new menu item. Fast forward to the new Crispy Chicken Sandwich that is testing in Houston and Knoxville… and we could not be more excited.

But tests like this don’t just happen… It was a perfect example of the power of the three-legged stool.

Owner Operators raised an idea based on our customers, and with full support of the company and McDonald’s valued suppliers, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich test was set in motion.

McDonald’s Owner Operator John Link felt energized by the customer desire he could fulfil with this delicious new sandwich.

“That’s why as franchisees, we are proud to be leading an effort with full support from McDonald’s and collaboration with our suppliers to build and test a Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Crispy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich with the high quality ingredients that our customers want.”

And so the McDonald’s menu team sprang into action, doing what they do best - collaborating closely with suppliers and Owner Operators to craft the menu items that they know our customers will love.

Chef Chad Schafer, McDonald’s Senior Director of Culinary, was tapped to lead the menu development for these new sandwiches.

Schafer is no stranger to exciting and delightful flavors. As a 25-year veteran of the culinary industry, he was thrilled to take on the development of the Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the Crispy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich alongside McDonald’s supply chain partners and Owner Operators.

“This test was a side by side development. Owner Operators and Suppliers were in the test kitchens with the culinary team – every step of the way. The Owner Operators were key in gleaning customer insight and our Suppliers made sure that quality was top of mind in every conversation,” he said.
