I found my independence, and a second family, at McDonald’s

I'm a very independent woman, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.
I was diagnosed with dwarfism as a child. The diagnosis was hard for me to hear – I felt like my future was uncertain, and that everything I’d been told about life was a lie.
Sadly, as I got older, other people believed that because I was small, I wasn’t going to be able to do a job that any other person could do.
I initially struggled to find work, but I was offered a job at a McDonald’s restaurant about two years ago. From my first day, it was as if my coworkers had known me for years. In this restaurant, I have a second family.
Best of all, when I'm working, I have my salary, my wage, my money. It's mine, I earned it, without having to ask anyone else for it.
I’m me, I’m who I want to be. McDonald’s helped me get here.
