Keeping Safety Top of Mind for Restaurant Employees and Communities

McDonald's restaurants showing PPE and safety

As we continue to navigate through this challenging time, we have a responsibility to our people – the heart and soul of McDonald’s. The health and well-being of our people guides our decision making. As we proactively monitor the impact of the coronavirus, we are continuously making changes to processes and restaurant operations with safety top of mind.

Across the country we are committed to staying open where we can to offer hot and delicious food to serve the community, including our healthcare workers, first responders, truck drivers, delivery workers, grocery clerks, and more. Many of our franchisees are also providing meals to families who relied on school lunches and providing hospital workers with warm prepared meals during their shifts. And to keep our operations strong, we are staying in constant communication with our franchisees to ensure our efforts are always aligned.

But we recognize we can’t serve our communities, without the ongoing dedication and commitment of McDonald’s employees and we are incredibly focused on the ongoing efforts to keep them safe.

Since February, we have continued to learn more about the coronavirus and evaluate expert guidance set by national and local health authorities. We and our franchisees have quickly incorporated additional precautionary measures, procedures, recommendations and resources with the safety and protection of restaurant employees and customers top of mind.

Our supply chain has done an amazing job to secure over 100 million non-medical grade masks for restaurant employees thus far. Masks are arriving now to areas with the greatest need and more will follow by month end – and while we wait for shipments to arrive across the country, we are strongly encouraging the use of DIY masks.

In addition, we’ve also continuously updated and taken many steps to ensure the highest standards of restaurant cleanliness and employee hygiene and well-being. For more information on all the steps we’ve taken over the last few months as the situation has evolved, and in accordance with expert health guidance, please view the infographic below.
